Matching with a Mentor/Mentee

Instructions

Instructions for Mentees

***It is up to YOU, as a mentee enrolled in the Mentor Match program, to initiate the mentoring relationship with your desired mentor.***

Start by searching the Mentor Directory for potential matches. You can narrow the list down using the various filters, but if you search and no results are returned, try using fewer filters. We recommend just clicking "Search" at the bottom of the page and looking at the full list of mentors. Keep in mind that as a mentee, you can only have one mentoring relationship at a time.

If you find someone who you are interested in having a mentoring relationship with, reach out to that person using one of two methods:

  1. Via email (outside the CXPA system), or
  2. [Recommended] Private message (within the CXPA system).

You can see contact information or send a private message via an individual's profile. It is very important that you reach out to have a conversation prior to sending a potential mentor an official request as you will want to determine if a mentor's knowledge and insights would be beneficial to the you based on what you are looking to accomplish.

Once it is established that the mentoring relationship will be mutually beneficial, you can send the mentor an official request (within the system) to pair up. This is done by clicking the green "Send Mentor Request" button on their profile underneath their photo. You will not be able to send the request unless you have completed the  enrollment process. The mentor will then accept the official request.

After you and your mentor are officially paired up, you will see the relationship at the bottom of your Mentee Profile

Important: do not click the "Finish Relationship" button (or either of the drop-down choices, "Abandon" or "Hide from Profile") unless you are sure that you are not continuing the mentoring relationship. This button is usually only used to conclude a relationship

Instructions for Mentors

If a mentee determines that they are interested in having a mentoring relationship with you, they will reach out to you one of two ways:

  1. Via email (outside the system), or
  2. Private message (within the system).

Continue to check your system inbox regularly and respond to any communications in a timely manner. These are important conversations to determine if your knowledge and insights would be beneficial to the mentee based on what he/she is looking to accomplish.

Once it is established that the mentoring relationship will be mutually beneficial, the mentee will send you an official request (within the system) to pair up. This will also arrive in your system inbox or can be found in the "Mentoring Requests" section of your Connections. At that time, you can accept the official request. If you receive a mentoring request that you do not feel would be mutually fulfilling, you may decline the request if you so choose. As a mentor, you can accept multiple mentees during one cycle (you set this limit during enrollment); however, our recommended best practice is no more than three mentees at a time.

After you and your mentee are officially paired up, you will see the relationship at the bottom of your Mentor Profile.

Important: do not click the "Finish Relationship" button (or either of the drop-down choices, "Abandon" or "Hide from Profile") unless you are sure that you are not continuing the mentoring relationship. This button is usually only used to conclude a relationship.
