Football World Cup is being played in Brazil this year. Best teams in the World playing against others. May the great sports event begin!

It got me thinking about different types of people that successful team needs: one needs goalkeeper with good reflexes, striker who solely finishes the attack and creative playmaker to open up opportunities. But even more important is what the game plan is. Because the team is a human system, it has its strengths and weaknesses. Game plan is supposed to do three things: 1) emphasize strengths, 2) reduce weaknesses and 3) break down the opponents game system.

There are similarities in the business world as well. All companies need people who complements each other and working strategy to make the best out of resources and people. Also the idea of the most valuable player is the same: the person who can solve difficult issues with creativeness. For team Argentina it’s Lionel Messi, for team Brazil it’s Neymar Jr and for team Italy it’s Andrea Pirlo. The playmaker.

On the other hand, in football game there’s missing something that business world has: the customer. The only one whose opinions matter: they can make rules and decide who win.

That’s why in business the best game plan is not to play against the competition but create remarkable value for your customer. For that purpose it’s very beneficial to understand how you can create value that your customer does not expect. The power of positive surprise is very powerful and creates a feeling of mutual understanding that will be worth a lot.
